Islam

(In the Light of the Holy Qur’an)

إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِندَ اللَّهِ الْإِسْلَامُ

Transliteration: Inna al-dīna ʿinda Allāhi al-islām

Translation: “Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam.” (Al-Imran :19)

وَمَن يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ وَهُوَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ

Transliteration: Wa-man yabtaghi ghayra al-islāmi dīnan fa-lan yuqbala minhu wa-huwa fī al-ākhirati mina al-khāsirīn

Translation: “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.” (Al-Imran :85)

الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا

Transliteration: Al-yawma akmaltu lakum dīnakum wa-atmamtu ʿalaykum niʿmatī wa-raḍītu lakumu al-islāma dīnan

Translation: “This day I have perfected for you your religion, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” (Al-Maidah :3)

فَمَن يُرِدِ اللَّهُ أَن يَهْدِيَهُ يَشْرَحْ صَدْرَهُ لِلْإِسْلَامِ وَمَن يُرِدْ أَن يُضِلَّهُ يَجْعَلْ صَدْرَهُ ضَيِّقًا حَرَجًا كَأَنَّمَا يَصَّعَّدُ فِي السَّمَاءِ كَذَٰلِكَ يَجْعَلُ اللَّهُ الرِّجْسَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Transliteration: Fa-man yuridi Allāhu an yahdiyahu yashraḥ ṣadrahu lil-islāmi wa-man yuridi an yuḍillahu yajʿal ṣadrahu ḍayyiqan ḥarajan ka-annamā yaṣṣaʿʿadu fī al-samāʾi ka-dhālika yajʿalu Allāhu al-rijsa ʿalā alladhīna lā yuʾminūn

Translation: “So whoever Allah intends to guide, He expands his breast for Islam; and whoever He intends to misguide, He makes his breast tight and constricted as though he were ascending into the sky. Thus Allah places defilement upon those who do not believe.” (Al-Anam :125)

أَفَمَن شَرَحَ اللَّهُ صَدْرَهُ لِلْإِسْلَامِ فَهُوَ عَلَىٰ نُورٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلْقَاسِيَةِ قُلُوبُهُم مِّن ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ أُولَٰئِكَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ

Transliteration: Afa-man sharaḥa Allāhu ṣadrahu lil-islāmi fa-huwa ʿalā nūrin min rabbihi fa-waylun lil-qāsiyati qulūbuhum min dhikri Allāhi ulāʾika fī ḍalālin mubīn

Translation: “Is one whose breast Allah has expanded for Islam so that he is upon a light from his Lord (like one whose heart is hardened)? Then woe to those whose hearts are hardened against the remembrance of Allah. Those are in clear error.” (Az-Zumar :22)

يَمُنُّونَ عَلَيْكَ أَنْ أَسْلَمُوا قُل لَّا تَمُنُّوا عَلَيَّ إِسْلَامَكُم بَلِ اللَّهُ يَمُنُّ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ هَدَاكُمْ لِلْإِيمَانِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

Transliteration: Yamunnūna ʿalayka an aslamū qul lā tamunnū ʿalayya islāmākum balillāhu yamunnu ʿalaykum an hadākum lil-īmāni in kuntum ṣādiqīn

Translation: “They consider it a favor to you that they have accepted Islam. Say: Do not regard your Islam as a favor upon me. Rather, Allah has bestowed favor upon you that He has guided you to faith, if you are truthful.” (Al-Hujurat :17)

يَحْلِفُونَ بِاللَّهِ مَا قَالُوا وَلَقَدْ قَالُوا كَلِمَةَ الْكُفْرِ وَكَفَرُوا بَعْدَ إِسْلَامِهِمْ وَهَمُّوا بِمَا لَمْ يَنَالُوا وَمَا نَقَمُوا إِلَّا أَنْ أَغْنَاهُمُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ مِن فَضْلِهِ فَإِن يَتُوبُوا يَكُ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ وَإِن يَتَوَلَّوْا يُعَذِّبْهُمُ اللَّهُ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَمَا لَهُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ مِن وَلِيٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ

Transliteration: Yaḥlifūna billāhi mā qālū wa-laqad qālū kalimata al-kufri wa-kafarū baʿda islāmihim wa-hammū bimā lam yanālū wa-mā naqamū illā an aghnāhumu Allāhu wa-rasūluhu min faḍlihi fa-in yatūbū yaku khayran lahum wa-in yatawallaw yuʿadhdhibhumu Allāhu ʿadhāban alīman fī al-dunyā wa-al-ākhirati wa-mā lahum fī al-arḍi min waliyyin wa-lā naṣīr

Translation: “They swear by Allah that they did not say (anything), while indeed they spoke the word of disbelief and disbelieved after their Islam, and they intended that which they could not attain. They resented nothing except that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them from His bounty. So if they repent, it will be better for them; but if they turn away, Allah will punish them with a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter, and they will have on earth no protector and no helper.” (At-Tawbah :74)
