Deeds
(Qur’anic Perspective)

Rejoicing in What One Has Not Done
Arabic:
لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَا أَتَوْا وَيُحِبُّونَ أَن يُحْمَدُوا بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا فَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّهُم بِمَفَازَةٍ مِّنَ الْعَذَابِ ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ
Transliteration:
Lā taḥsabanna alladhīna yafraḥūna bimā ataw wa-yuḥibbūna an yuḥmadū bimā lam yafʿalū fa-lā taḥsabannahum bimafāzatin mina al-ʿadhāb, wa-lahum ʿadhābun alīm
Translation:
"Do not think that those who rejoice in what they have done and love to be praised for what they did not do will escape the punishment. For them is a painful punishment." (Āl ʿImrān 188)

Reward and Punishment According to Deeds
Arabic:
لَّيْسَ بِأَمَانِيِّكُمْ وَلَا أَمَانِيِّ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ ۗ مَن يَعْمَلْ سُوءًا يُجْزَ بِهِ وَلَا يَجِدْ لَهُ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلِيًّا وَلَا نَصِيرًا
وَمَن يَعْمَلْ مِنَ الصَّالِحَاتِ مِن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُولَٰئِكَ يَدْخُلُونَ الْجَنَّةَ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ نَقِيرًا
Transliteration:
Laysa bi-amāniyyikum wa-lā amāniyyi ahli al-kitāb, man yaʿmal sūʾan yujza bih wa-lā yajid lahu min dūni Allāhi waliyyan wa-lā naṣīrā
Wa-man yaʿmal mina al-ṣāliḥāti min dhakarin aw unthā wa-huwa muʾmin fa-ulāʾika yadkhulūna al-jannata wa-lā yuẓlamūna naqīrā
Translation:
"It is not according to your wishes nor the wishes of the People of the Book. Whoever does evil will be recompensed for it and will find for himself neither protector nor helper besides Allah. And whoever does righteous deeds, whether male or female, while being a believer — such will enter Paradise, and they will not be wronged even as much as the speck on a date seed." (Al-Nisāʾ 123–124)

Reward for Faith and Righteous Action
Arabic:
فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَاعْتَصَمُوا بِهِ فَسَيُدْخِلُهُمْ فِي رَحْمَةٍ مِّنْهُ وَفَضْلٍ وَيَهْدِيهِمْ إِلَيْهِ صِرَاطًا مُّسْتَقِيمًا
Transliteration:
Fa-ammā alladhīna āmanū bi-Allāhi wa-iʿtaṣamū bihi fa-sayudkhiluhum fī raḥmatin minhu wa-faḍl wa-yahdīhim ilayhi ṣirāṭan mustaqīmā
Translation:
"As for those who believe in Allah and hold firmly to Him, He will admit them into His mercy and grace and guide them to Himself on a straight path." (Al-Nisāʾ 175)

A Pure Life for the Righteous
Arabic:
مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُ حَيَاةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
Transliteration:
Man ʿamila ṣāliḥan min dhakarin aw unthā wa-huwa muʾmin fa-lanuḥyiyannahu ḥayātan ṭayyibah, wa-lanajziyannahum ajrahum bi-aḥsani mā kānū yaʿmalūn
Translation:
"Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while being a believer — We will surely grant them a good life, and We will surely reward them according to the best of what they used to do." (Al-Naḥl 97)

The Reward of the Righteous Is Not Lost
Arabic:
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ إِنَّا لَا نُضِيعُ أَجْرَ مَنْ أَحْسَنَ عَمَلًا
Transliteration:
Inna alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti innā lā nuḍīʿu ajra man aḥsana ʿamalā
Translation:
"Indeed, those who believe and perform righteous deeds — We do not allow the reward of those who do good to be lost." (Al-Kahf 30)

The Greatest Losers in Deeds
Arabic:
قُلْ هَلْ نُنَبِّئُكُم بِالْأَخْسَرِينَ أَعْمَالًا
الَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ يَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُمْ يُحْسِنُونَ صُنْعًا
أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَلِقَائِهِ فَحَبِطَتْ أَعْمَالُهُمْ فَلَا نُقِيمُ لَهُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَزْنًا
Transliteration:
Qul hal nunabbiʾukum bi-al-akhsarīna aʿmālā
Alladhīna ḍalla saʿyuhum fī al-ḥayāti al-dunyā wa-hum yaḥsabūna annahum yuḥsinūna ṣunʿā
Ulāʾika alladhīna kafarū bi-āyāti rabbihim wa-liqāʾih fa-ḥabiṭat aʿmāluhum fa-lā nuqīmu lahum yawma al-qiyāmati waznā
Translation:
"Say: Shall We inform you of those who are the greatest losers in deeds? Those whose efforts have been wasted in the life of this world while they think that they are doing good. Those are the ones who disbelieved in the signs of their Lord and in the meeting with Him, so their deeds became worthless, and We will assign to them no weight on the Day of Resurrection." (Al-Kahf 103–105)

Recompense for Good and Evil
Arabic:
مَن جَاءَ بِالْحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُ خَيْرٌ مِّنْهَا ۖ وَمَن جَاءَ بِالسَّيِّئَةِ فَلَا يُجْزَى الَّذِينَ عَمِلُوا السَّيِّئَاتِ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
Transliteration:
Man jāʾa bi-al-ḥasanati fa-lahu khayrun minhā, wa-man jāʾa bi-al-sayyiʾati fa-lā yujzā alladhīna ʿamilū al-sayyiʾāti illā mā kānū yaʿmalūn
Translation:
"Whoever brings a good deed will have better than it, and whoever brings an evil deed — those who did evil will only be recompensed for what they used to do." (Al-Qaṣaṣ 84)

Removal of Sins for the Believers
Arabic:
وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَنُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَحْسَنَ الَّذِي كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
Transliteration:
Wa-alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti lanukaffiranna ʿanhum sayyiʾātihim wa-lanajziyannahum aḥsana alladhī kānū yaʿmalūn
Translation:
"And those who believe and do righteous deeds — We will surely remove from them their sins and reward them according to the best of what they used to do." (Al-ʿAnkabūt 7)

Promise of Forgiveness and Great Reward
Arabic:
وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ
Transliteration:
Waʿada Allāhu alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti lahum maghfiratun wa-ajrun ʿaẓīm
Translation:
"Allah has promised those who believe and perform righteous deeds forgiveness and a great reward." (Al-Māʾidah 9)

Bliss for the Righteous
Arabic:
الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ طُوبَىٰ لَهُمْ وَحُسْنُ مَآبٍ
Transliteration:
Alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti ṭūbā lahum wa-ḥusnu maʾāb
Translation:
"Those who believe and perform righteous deeds — for them is bliss and a beautiful place of return." (Al-Raʿd 29)

Judgment Belongs to Allah
Arabic:
الْمُلْكُ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلَّهِ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ فَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ
Transliteration:
Al-mulku yawmaʾidhin li-Allāh yaḥkumu baynahum, fa-alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti fī jannāti al-naʿīm
Translation:
"On that Day the dominion will belong to Allah. He will judge between them. Then those who believed and performed righteous deeds will be in the Gardens of Delight." (Al-Ḥajj 56)

Inclusion Among the Righteous
Arabic:
وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَنُدْخِلَنَّهُمْ فِي الصَّالِحِينَ
Transliteration:
Wa-alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti lanudkhilannahum fī al-ṣāliḥīn
Translation:
"And those who believe and perform righteous deeds — We will surely include them among the righteous." (Al-ʿAnkabūt 9)

High Mansions in Paradise
Arabic:
وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُم مِّنَ الْجَنَّةِ غُرَفًا تَجْرِي مِن تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ نِعْمَ أَجْرُ الْعَامِلِينَ
Transliteration:
Wa-alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti lanubawwiʾannahum mina al-jannati ghurafan tajrī min taḥtihā al-anhār khālidīna fīhā, niʿma ajru al-ʿāmilīn
Translation:
"And those who believe and perform righteous deeds — We will surely lodge them in lofty dwellings of Paradise beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. Excellent is the reward of those who work." (Al-ʿAnkabūt 58)

Gardens as a Reward for Deeds
Arabic:
أَمَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ فَلَهُمْ جَنَّاتُ الْمَأْوَىٰ نُزُلًا بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
Transliteration:
Ammā alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti fa-lahum jannātu al-maʾwā nuzulan bimā kānū yaʿmalūn
Translation:
"As for those who believe and perform righteous deeds, for them will be the Gardens of Refuge as hospitality for what they used to do." (Al-Sajdah 19)

Reward According to the Best of Deeds
Arabic:
لِيُكَفِّرَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ أَسْوَأَ الَّذِي عَمِلُوا وَيَجْزِيَهُمْ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ الَّذِي كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ
Transliteration:
Li-yukaffira Allāhu ʿanhum aswaʾa alladhī ʿamilū wa-yajziyahum ajrahum bi-aḥsani alladhī kānū yaʿmalūn
Translation:
"So that Allah may remove from them the worst of what they did and reward them according to the best of what they used to do." (Al-Zumar 35)

Glad Tidings for the Believers
Arabic:
ذَٰلِكَ الَّذِي يُبَشِّرُ اللَّهُ عِبَادَهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ ۗ قُل لَّا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا الْمَوَدَّةَ فِي الْقُرْبَىٰ ۗ وَمَن يَقْتَرِفْ حَسَنَةً نَّزِدْ لَهُ فِيهَا حُسْنًا ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ
Transliteration:
Dhālika alladhī yubashshiru Allāhu ʿibādahu alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāt, qul lā asʾalukum ʿalayhi ajran illā al-mawaddata fī al-qurbā, wa-man yaqtarif ḥasanatan nazid lahu fīhā ḥusnā, inna Allāha ghafūrun shakūr
Translation:
"That is the good news which Allah gives to His servants who believe and perform righteous deeds. Say: I ask of you no reward for it except affection for near relatives. And whoever earns a good deed — We increase for him in its goodness. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Appreciative." (Al-Shūrā 23)

The Path of Success
Arabic:
وَالْعَصْرِ
إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ
Transliteration:
Wa-al-ʿaṣr
Inna al-insāna la-fī khusr
Illā alladhīna āmanū wa-ʿamilū al-ṣāliḥāti wa-tawāṣaw bi-al-ḥaqqi wa-tawāṣaw bi-al-ṣabr
Translation:
"By time, indeed mankind is in loss, except those who believe and perform righteous deeds, and exhort one another to truth, and exhort one another to patience." (Al-ʿAṣr 1–3)

Warning Against Slander
Narrated by Ḥudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "A slanderer will not enter Paradise." (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, Hadith No. 105)
