English Translation
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Allah’s Respite
(In the Light of the Qur’an)
-
هَلْ یَنْظُرُوْنَ اِلَّاۤ اَنْ تَاْتِیَهُمُ الْمَلٰٓىٕكَةُ اَوْ یَاْتِیَ رَبُّكَ اَوْ یَاْتِیَ بَعْضُ اٰیٰتِ رَبِّكَؕ-یَوْمَ یَاْتِیْ بَعْضُ اٰیٰتِ رَبِّكَ لَا یَنْفَعُ نَفْسًا اِیْمَانُهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ اٰمَنَتْ مِنْ قَبْلُ اَوْ كَسَبَتْ فِیْۤ اِیْمَانِهَا خَیْرًاؕ-قُلِ انْتَظِرُوْۤا اِنَّا مُنْتَظِرُوْنَ
Transliteration: Innamā yanẓurūna illā an taʾtiyahumu al-malāʾikatu aw yaʾtiya rabbuka aw yaʾtiya baʿḍu āyāti rabbik, yawma yaʾti baʿḍu āyāti rabbika lā yanfaʿu nafsan īmānuhā lam takun āmanat min qablu aw kasabat fī īmānihā khayrā, qul intaẓirū innā muntaẓirūn
Translation: “They await nothing except that angels should come to them, or your Lord should come, or some signs of your Lord should come. The Day some signs of your Lord come, the faith of a person who had not believed before, or had not earned any good through his faith, will not benefit him. Say: ‘You wait; we too are waiting.’” (Al-An‘ām :158)

قُلْ هَلْ تَرَبَّصُونَ بِنَا إِلَّا إِحْدَى الْحُسْنَيَيْنِ ۖ وَنَحْنُ نَتَرَبَّصُ بِكُمْ أَن يُصِيبَكُمُ اللَّهُ بِعَذَابٍ مِّنْ عِندِهِ أَوْ بِأَيْدِينَا ۖ فَتَرَبَّصُوا إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّتَرَبِّصُونَ
Transliteration: Qul hal tarabbaṣūna binā illā iḥdā al-ḥusnayayn, wa-naḥnu natarabbaṣu bikum an yuṣībakumu Allāhu biʿadhābin min ʿindihi aw bi-aydīnā, fa-tarabbaṣū innā maʿakum mutarabbaṣūn
Translation: “Say: ‘You await for us only one of the two good outcomes, while we await for you that Allah afflict you with punishment from Himself or at our hands. So wait; indeed we too are waiting with you.’” (At-Tawbah :52)

وَلَوْ يُعَجِّلُ اللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ الشَّرَّ اسْتِعْجَالَهُم بِالْخَيْرِ لَقُضِيَ إِلَيْهِمْ أَجَلُهُمْ ۖ فَنَذَرُ الَّذِينَ لَا يَرْجُونَ لِقَاءَنَا فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ
Transliteration: Wa-law yuʿajjilu Allāhu lil-nāsi al-sharra istiʿjālahum bil-khayr la-quḍiya ilayhim ajaluhum, fa-nadharu alladhīna lā yarjūna liqāʾanā fī ṭughyānihim yaʿmahūn
Translation: “If Allah were to hasten for people evil as they hasten for good, their term would already have been decreed for them. So We leave those who do not expect to meet Us wandering blindly in their rebellion.” (Yūnus :11)

وَمَا كَانَ النَّاسُ إِلَّا أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً فَاخْتَلَفُوا ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُمْ فِيمَا فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ
Transliteration: Wa-mā kāna al-nāsu illā ummatan wāḥidatan fa-ikhtalafū, wa-lawlā kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika la-quḍiya baynahum fīmā fīhi yakhtalifūn
Translation: “Mankind were not but one community, then they differed. And if a word from your Lord had not preceded, it would have been judged between them regarding that in which they differ.” (Yūnus :19)

وَيَقُولُونَ لَوْلَا أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ آيَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِ ۖ فَقُلْ إِنَّمَا الْغَيْبُ لِلَّهِ فَانتَظِرُوا إِنِّي مَعَكُم مِّنَ الْمُنتَظِرِينَ
Transliteration: Wa-yaqūlūna lawlā unzila ʿalayhi āyatun min rabbih, fa-qul innamā al-ghaybu lillāh, fa-intaẓirū innī maʿakum mina al-muntaẓirīn
Translation: “They say: ‘Why has a sign not been sent down to him from his Lord?’ Say: ‘The unseen belongs only to Allah; so wait, I too am with you among those who wait.’” (Yūnus :20)

وَلَوْ أَنَّا أَهْلَكْنَاهُم بِعَذَابٍ مِّن قَبْلِهِ لَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا لَوْلَا أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولًا فَنَتَّبِعَ آيَاتِكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن نَّذِلَّ وَنَخْزَىٰ
Transliteration: Wa-law annā ahlaknāhum biʿadhābin min qablihi la-qālū rabbanā lawlā arsalta ilaynā rasūlan fa-nattabiʿa āyātika min qabli an nadhilla wa-nakhzā
Translation: “If We had destroyed them with a punishment before it, they would have said: ‘Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger so that we might have followed Your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced?’” (Ṭāhā :134)

قُلْ كُلٌّ مُّتَرَبِّصٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَصْحَابُ الصِّرَاطِ السَّوِيِّ وَمَنِ اهْتَدَىٰ
Transliteration: Qul kullun mutarabbis fa-tarabbaṣū fa-sataʿlamūna man aṣḥābu al-ṣirāṭi al-sawiyyi wa-mani ihtadā
Translation: “Say: ‘Everyone is waiting; so wait. You will soon know who are the people of the straight path and who is rightly guided.’” (Ṭāhā :135)

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْفَتْحُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
Transliteration: Wa-yaqūlūna matā hādhā al-fatḥu in kuntum ṣādiqīn
Translation: “They say: ‘When will this decision be, if you are truthful?’” (As-Sajdah :28)

قُلْ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ لَا يَنفَعُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِيمَانُهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ
Transliteration: Qul yawma al-fatḥi lā yanfaʿu alladhīna kafarū īmānuhum wa-lā hum yunẓarūn
Translation: “Say: ‘On the Day of Decision, the faith of those who disbelieved will not benefit them, nor will they be granted respite.’” (As-Sajdah :29)

فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَانتَظِرْ إِنَّهُم مُّنتَظِرُونَ
Transliteration: Fa-aʿriḍ ʿanhum wa-intaẓir innahum muntaẓirūn
Translation: “So turn away from them and wait; indeed, they too are waiting.” (As-Sajdah :30)

فَهَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا السَّاعَةَ أَن تَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةً ۖ فَقَدْ جَاءَ أَشْرَاطُهَا ۚ فَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمْ إِذَا جَاءَتْهُمْ ذِكْرَاهُمْ
Transliteration: Fa-hal yanẓurūna illā al-sāʿata an taʾtiyahum baghtatan fa-qad jāʾa ashrāṭuhā fa-annā lahum idhā jāʾat-hum dhikrāhum
Translation: “Do they await except the Hour, that it should come upon them suddenly? But its signs have already come; so how will they benefit from their reminder when it comes to them?” (Muḥammad :18)

هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا أَن يَأْتِيَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي ظُلَلٍ مِّنَ الْغَمَامِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ وَقُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ ۚ وَإِلَى اللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ الْأُمُورُ
Transliteration: Hal yanẓurūna illā an yaʾtiyahumu Allāhu fī ẓulalin mina al-ghamāmi wa-al-malāʾikatu wa-quḍiya al-amr, wa-ilā Allāhi turjaʿu al-umūr
Translation: “Do they await except that Allah should come to them in shades of clouds and the angels, and the matter be decided? And to Allah all matters are returned.” (Al-Baqarah :210)

قُلْ یٰقَوْمِ اعْمَلُوْا عَلٰى مَكَانَتِكُمْ اِنِّیْ عَامِلٌۚ-فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُوْنَۙ-مَنْ تَكُوْنُ لَهٗ عَاقِبَةُ الدَّارِؕ-اِنَّهٗ لَا یُفْلِحُ الظّٰلِمُوْنَ
Transliteration: Qul yā qawmi iʿmalū ʿalā makānatikum innī ʿāmil fa-sawfa taʿlamūna man takūnu lahu ʿāqibatu al-dār, innahu lā yufliḥu al-ẓālimūn
Translation: “Say: ‘O my people, act according to your position; indeed, I too am acting. You will soon know for whom will be the outcome of the home. Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed.’” (Al-An‘ām :135)

قُلْ فَانتَظِرُوا إِنِّي مَعَكُم مِّنَ الْمُنتَظِرِينَ
Transliteration: Qul fa-intaẓirū innī maʿakum mina al-muntaẓirīn
Translation: “Say: ‘Then wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait.’” (Yūnus :102)

هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا أَن تَأْتِيَهُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَوْ يَأْتِيَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ فَعَلَ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ وَمَا ظَلَمَهُمُ اللَّهُ وَلَٰكِن كَانُوا أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ
Transliteration: Hal yanẓurūna illā an taʾtiyahumu al-malāʾikatu aw yaʾtiya amru rabbik, kadhālika faʿala alladhīna min qablihim, wa-mā ẓalamahumu Allāhu wa-lākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn
Translation: “Do they await except that the angels should come to them, or the command of your Lord should come? Thus did those before them. Allah did not wrong them, but they were wronging themselves.” (An-Naḥl :33)

قُلْ مَنْ كَانَ فِی الضَّلٰلَةِ فَلْیَمْدُدْ لَهُ الرَّحْمٰنُ مَدًّاۚ۬-حَتّٰۤى اِذَا رَاَوْا مَا یُوْعَدُوْنَ اِمَّا الْعَذَابَ وَ اِمَّا السَّاعَةَؕ-فَسَیَعْلَمُوْنَ مَنْ هُوَ شَرٌّ مَّكَانًا وَّ اَضْعَفُ جُنْدًا
Transliteration: Qul man kāna fī al-ḍalālati fal-yamdud lahu al-Raḥmānu maddā, ḥattā idhā raʾaw mā yūʿadūna immā al-ʿadhāba wa-immā al-sāʿata fa-sayaʿlamūna man huwa sharrun makānan wa-aḍʿafu jundā
Translation: “Say: ‘Whoever is in error — let the Most Merciful extend for him an extension until, when they see that which they were promised, either the punishment or the Hour, they will know who is worse in position and weaker in force.’” (Maryam :75)

أَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِ مِن مَّالٍ وَبَنِينَ
Transliteration: A-yaḥsabūna annamā numidduhum bihi min mālin wa-banīn
Translation: “Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children…” (Al-Muʾminūn :55)
-
نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ ۚ بَل لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ
Transliteration: Nusāriʿu lahum fī al-khayrāt, bal lā yashʿurūn
Translation: “We hasten for them in good things? Rather, they do not perceive.” (Al-Muʾminūn :56)
-
مَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ
Transliteration: Mā yanẓurūna illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan taʾkhudhuhum wa-hum yakhiṣṣimūn
Translation: “They await only a single blast which will seize them while they are disputing.” (Yā-Sīn :49)

مَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً مَّا لَهَا مِن فَوَاقٍ
Transliteration: Mā yanẓurūna illā ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan mā lahā min fawāq
Translation: “They await only a single blast for which there will be no delay.” (Ṣād :15)

هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا السَّاعَةَ أَن تَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ
Transliteration: Hal yanẓurūna illā al-sāʿata an taʾtiyahum baghtatan wa-hum lā yashʿurūn
Translation: “Do they await except the Hour that it should come upon them suddenly while they do not perceive?” (Az-Zukhruf :66)
-
قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا فَإِنِّي مَعَكُم مِّنَ الْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ
Transliteration: Qul tarabbaṣū fa-innī maʿakum mina al-mutarabbiṣīn
Translation: “Say: ‘Wait; indeed I am with you among those who wait.’” (Aṭ-Ṭūr :31)
