English Translation
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Human (1)
(In the Light of the Qur’an)
-
يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُخَفِّفَ عَنكُمْ ۚ وَخُلِقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ ضَعِيفًۭا
Transliteration: Yurīdu Allāhu an yukhaffifa ʿankum, wa-khuliqa al-insānu ḍaʿīfā
Translation: “Allah intends to lighten your burden, and man was created weak.” (An-Nisa :28)
-
وَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ ٱلضُّرُّ دَعَانَا لِجَنۢبِهِۦٓ أَوْ قَاعِدًا أَوْ قَآئِمًۭا فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُ ضُرَّهُۥ مَرَّ كَأَن لَّمْ يَدْعُنَآ إِلَىٰ ضُرٍّۢ مَّسَّهُۥ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
Transliteration: Wa-idhā massa al-insāna al-ḍurru daʿānā li-janbihī aw qāʿidan aw qāʾimā, fa-lammā kashafnā ʿanhu ḍurrahu marra ka-an lam yadʿunā ilā ḍurrin massah, kadhālika zuyyina lil-musrifīna mā kānū yaʿmalūn
Translation: “And when harm touches man, he calls upon Us lying on his side, or sitting, or standing; then when We remove the harm from him, he passes on as if he had never called Us for the harm that touched him. Thus are the deeds of the transgressors made attractive to them.” (Yunus :12)
-
وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِنَّا رَحْمَةًۭ ثُمَّ نَزَعْنَـٰهَا مِنْهُ إِنَّهُۥ لَيَـُٔوسٌۭ كَفُورٌۭ
Transliteration: Wa-la-in adhaqnā al-insāna minnā raḥmatan thumma nazaʿnāhā minhu innahu la-yaʾūsun kafūr
Translation: “And if We let man taste mercy from Us and then remove it from him, he becomes despairing and ungrateful.” (Hud :9)
-
وَءَاتَىٰكُم مِّن كُلِّ مَا سَأَلْتُمُوهُ ۚ وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَظَلُومٌۭ كَفَّارٌۭ
Transliteration: Wa-ātākum min kulli mā saʾaltumūhu, wa-in taʿuddū niʿmata Allāhi lā tuḥṣūhā, inna al-insāna la-ẓalūmun kaffār
Translation: “And He has given you from all that you asked of Him, and if you count the favors of Allah, you will not be able to enumerate them. Indeed, man is most unjust and ungrateful.” (Ibrahim :34)
-
وَيَدْعُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ بِٱلشَّرِّ دُعَآءَهُۥ بِٱلْخَيْرِ ۖ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَجُولًۭا
Transliteration: Wa-yadʿu al-insānu bi-al-sharri duʿāʾahu bi-al-khayr, wa-kāna al-insānu ʿajūlā
Translation: “And man supplicates for evil as he supplicates for good, and man is ever hasty.” (Bani Isra’il :11)
-
وَإِذَآ أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ أَعْرَضَ وَنَـَٔا بِجَانِبِهِۦ ۖ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ كَانَ يَـُٔوسًۭا
Transliteration: Wa-idhā anʿamnā ʿalā al-insāni aʿraḍa wa-naʾā bi-jānibihī, wa-idhā massahu al-sharru kāna yaʾūsā
Translation: “And when We bestow favor upon man, he turns away and distances himself; and when evil touches him, he becomes despairing.” (Bani Isra’il :83)
-
قُل لَّوْ أَنتُمْ تَمْلِكُونَ خَزَآئِنَ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّىٓ إِذًۭا لَّأَمْسَكْتُمْ خَشْيَةَ ٱلْإِنفَاقِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ قَتُورًۭا
Transliteration: Qul law antum tamlikūna khazāʾina raḥmati rabbī idhan la-amsaktum khashyata al-infāq, wa-kāna al-insānu qatūrā
Translation: “Say: if you possessed the خزائن of the mercy of my Lord, you would withhold them out of fear of spending, and man is ever stingy.” (Bani Isra’il :100)
-
وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِى هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ لِلنَّاسِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٍۢ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَكْثَرَ شَىْءٍۢ جَدَلًۭا
Transliteration: Wa-laqad ṣarrafnā fī hādhā al-qurʾāni li-al-nāsi min kulli mathal, wa-kāna al-insānu akthara shayʾin jadalā
Translation: “And We have certainly presented in this Qur’an for the people every kind of example, but man is, more than anything, most argumentative.” (Al-Kahf :54)
-
فَاِذَا مَسَّ الْاِنْسَانَ ضُرٌّ دَعَانَا٘-ثُمَّ اِذَا خَوَّلْنٰهُ نِعْمَةً مِّنَّاۙ-قَالَ اِنَّمَاۤ اُوْتِیْتُهٗ عَلٰى عِلْمٍؕ-بَلْ هِیَ فِتْنَةٌ وَّ لٰكِنَّ اَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا یَعْلَمُوْنَ
Transliteration: Wa-idhā massa al-insāna ḍurrun daʿānā thumma idhā khawwalnāhu niʿmatan minnā qāla innamā ūtītuhu ʿalā ʿilm, bal hiya fitnah wa-lākinna aktharahum lā yaʿlamūn
Translation: “And when harm touches man, he calls upon Us; then when We bestow upon him a favor from Us, he says: this has been given to me because of knowledge. Rather, it is a trial, but most of them do not know.” (Az-Zumar :49)
-
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفْسُهُۥ ۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ ٱلْوَرِيدِ
Transliteration: Wa-laqad khalaqnā al-insāna wa-naʿlamu mā tuwaswisu bihi nafsuh, wa-naḥnu aqrabu ilayhi min ḥabli al-warīd
Translation: “And We have created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are nearer to him than his jugular vein.” (Qaf :16)
-
أَمْ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ مَا تَمَنَّىٰ
Transliteration: Am li-al-insāni mā tamannā
Translation: “Does man obtain whatever he wishes?” (An-Najm :24)
-
فَلِلَّهِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
Transliteration: Fa-li-Allāhi al-ākhiratu wa-al-ūlā
Translation: “The Hereafter and the worldly life belong to Allah.” (An-Najm :25)
-
وَأَن لَّيْسَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ إِلَّا مَا سَعَىٰ
Transliteration: Wa-an laysa li-al-insāni illā mā saʿā
Translation: “And that man will have nothing except what he strives for.” (An-Najm :39)
-
إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا
Transliteration: Inna al-insāna khuliqa halūʿā
Translation: “Indeed, man was created impatient.” (Al-Ma‘arij :19)
-
أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ
Transliteration: Ayaḥsabu al-insānu allan najmaʿa ʿiẓāmah
Translation: “Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?” (Al-Qiyamah :3)
-
بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ
Transliteration: Balā qādirīna ʿalā an nusawwiya banānah
Translation: “Yes, We are able to proportion even his fingertips.” (Al-Qiyamah :4)
-
بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ
Transliteration: Bal yurīdu al-insānu li-yafjura amāmah
Translation: “But man desires to continue in sin ahead of him.” (Al-Qiyamah :5)
-
هَلْ أَتَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ حِينٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُن شَيْـًۭٔا مَّذْكُورًا
Transliteration: Hal atā ʿalā al-insāni ḥīnun mina al-dahri lam yakun shayʾan madhkūrā
Translation: “Has there come upon man a period of time when he was nothing to be mentioned?” (Ad-Dahr :1)
-
إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ أَمْشَاجٍۢ نَّبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ سَمِيعًۢا بَصِيرًا
Transliteration: Innā khalaqnā al-insāna min nuṭfatin amshājin nabtalīhi fa-jaʿalnāhu samīʿan baṣīrā
Translation: “Indeed, We created man from a mixed drop to test him, so We made him hearing and seeing.” (Ad-Dahr :2)
-
إِنَّا هَدَيْنَـٰهُ ٱلسَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًۭا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا
Transliteration: Innā hadaynāhu al-sabīla immā shākiran wa-immā kafūrā
Translation: “We showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful.” (Ad-Dahr :3)
-
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مَا غَرَّكَ بِرَبِّكَ ٱلْكَرِيمِ
Transliteration: Yā ayyuhā al-insānu mā gharraka bi-rabbika al-karīm
Translation: “O man, what has deceived you concerning your Generous Lord?” (Al-Infitar :6)
-
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكَ فَسَوَّىٰكَ فَعَدَلَكَ
Transliteration: Alladhī khalaqaka fa-sawwāka fa-ʿadalak
Translation: “Who created you, fashioned you, and proportioned you.” (Al-Infitar :7)
-
فِىٓ أَىِّ صُورَةٍۢ مَّا شَآءَ رَكَّبَكَ
Transliteration: Fī ayyi ṣūratin mā shāʾa rakkabak
Translation: “In whatever form He willed, He assembled you.” (Al-Infitar :8)
-
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِى كَبَدٍۢ
Transliteration: Laqad khalaqnā al-insāna fī kabad
Translation: “We have certainly created man in hardship.” (Al-Balad :4)
-
لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِىٓ أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍۢ
Transliteration: Laqad khalaqnā al-insāna fī aḥsani taqwīm
Translation: “We have certainly created man in the best form.” (At-Tin :4)
-
عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ
Transliteration: ʿAllama al-insāna mā lam yaʿlam
Translation: “He taught man what he did not know.” (Al-‘Alaq :5)
-
كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰ
Transliteration: Kallā inna al-insāna la-yaṭghā
Translation: “No! Indeed, man transgresses.” (Al-‘Alaq :6)
-
أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ
Transliteration: An raʾāhu istaghnā
Translation: “Because he sees himself self-sufficient.” (Al-‘Alaq :7)
-
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰ
Transliteration: Inna ilā rabbika al-rujʿā
Translation: “Indeed, to your Lord is the return.” (Al-‘Alaq :8)
