Minor Signs of the Day of Resurrection (1) (In the Light of Ḥadīth)

The disappearance of religious knowledge and the spread of ignorance are signs of the nearness of the Day of Resurrection:

    Abū Mūsā (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Before the Hour, there will come days in which ignorance will prevail, knowledge (of religion) will be taken away, and harj (bloodshed) will become widespread.”
    (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī)

The disappearance of righteous action:

    Ziyād ibn Labīd (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a matter was mentioned before the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: “This will occur when knowledge is taken away.” I said: “O Messenger of Allah, how will knowledge be taken away when we recite the Qur’an, teach it to our children, and they will teach it to their children, and this will continue until the Day of Resurrection?” He ﷺ said: “May your mother lose you, Ziyād! I had counted you among the knowledgeable people of Madinah. Do the Jews and the Christians not read the Torah and the Gospel, yet they do not act upon what is in them?”

Five signs of the nearness of the Day of Resurrection:

    Ṭāriq ibn Shihāb (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Before the Hour, the following signs will appear: greeting only those whom one knows; the widespread nature of trade such that a wife will assist her husband in his trade; severing of kinship ties; giving false testimony; concealing true testimony; and the widespread use of the pen.”

Concealing the truth:

    ʿAbdullāh ibn Masʿūd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Before the Hour, there will be those who give false testimony and conceal the truth.”

Mistreatment of neighbors, and the spread of indecency and obscene speech:

    ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAmr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Indeed, Allah does not love indecency and obscene speech. The Hour will not be established until indecency and obscene speech become widespread, kinship ties are severed, neighbors are mistreated, the treacherous are regarded as trustworthy, and the trustworthy are regarded as treacherous.”

Near the Day of Resurrection, the most ignoble and foolish person will be regarded as the most honored:

    Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The Hour will not be established until the most fortunate person in worldly terms is regarded as the one who is ignoble and foolish.”
    (Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī)

People will acquire knowledge from the ignorant:

    Abū Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Among the signs of the Hour is that people will seek knowledge from the ignorant.”

After the completion of the minor signs of the Day of Resurrection, the major signs will be described, God willing.
