Signs of the Day of Resurrection (1) (In the Light of Ḥadīth)

    Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Among the signs of the Hour is that knowledge will be taken away, ignorance will become widespread, adultery will become prevalent, intoxicants will be consumed in abundance, men will become few and women will become many, to the extent that one man will be responsible for fifty women.” In another narration it is stated that knowledge will disappear and ignorance will become widespread.

    Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Indeed, before the Hour, there will be many liars; beware of them.”

    Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that once the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was speaking when a Bedouin came and asked: “When will the Hour be established?” He ﷺ said: “When trust is no longer preserved, then await the Hour.” He asked: “What is meant by the loss of trust?” He ﷺ replied: “When authority is entrusted to those who are not qualified for it, then await the Hour.”

    Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Soon the River Euphrates will uncover a treasure of gold; whoever is present there should not take anything from it.”

    Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The Hour will not be established until the River Euphrates uncovers a mountain of gold. People will fight over it, and out of every hundred, ninety-nine will be killed. Each of them will think that he will be the one who survives.”

    Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “By the One in whose hand is my soul, the world will not come to an end until a man passes by a grave and rubs himself against it and says: ‘Would that I were in the place of the one in this grave.’ This will not be due to religious devotion, but because of trials; a person will no longer wish to remain alive.”

    Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The Hour will not be established until a fire emerges from the land of Ḥijāz, which will illuminate the necks of the camels in the city of Buṣrā.”
    (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)

Imām al-Nawawī (may Allah have mercy on him) stated that this fire appeared in the year 654 AH on the eastern side of Madinah. People of Syria and other lands were well aware of it, and those from Madinah who witnessed it informed him about it. ʿAllāmah Turpushtī (may Allah have mercy on him) wrote that the inhabitants of Madinah and its surrounding areas observed it; the fire continued for twelve consecutive days. Heated stones were being thrown from the earth’s surface, and the stones burned and turned into charcoal. Its traces may still be seen in the present era. By the grace and mercy of Allah, when this fire approached the sanctuary of Madinah, it subsided.
