Minor Signs of the Day of Resurrection (5) (In the Light of Ḥadīth)

A person will kill his own relatives and neighbors:

    Abū Mūsā (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Before the Hour there will be harj.” I asked: “O Messenger of Allah, what is harj?” He ﷺ said: “Killing.” Some of the Companions said: “O Messenger of Allah, killing already occurs; in a single year we kill many polytheists.” He ﷺ said: “It will not be the killing of polytheists; rather, you will kill one another until a man kills his neighbor, his cousin, and his relatives.”
    (Sunan Ibn Mājah)

Muslims will follow the ways of earlier nations:

    Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The Hour will not be established until my ummah follows the ways of the previous nations, step by step. If they were to advance a handspan, you would advance a handspan; and if they were to advance an arm’s length, you would advance an arm’s length.” It was asked: “O Messenger of Allah, do you mean the Jews and the Christians?” He ﷺ said: “Who else?”

Sudden death will become widespread:

    Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Near the Hour, the crescent will appear large, people will say it is the moon of the second night; mosques will be taken as passageways (people will pass through them or visit them but will not pray), and sudden death will become widespread.”
    (Ṭabarānī)

Beasts and inanimate objects will speak:

    Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The Hour will not be established until beasts speak to people, until the end of a person’s whip speaks to him, and until his thigh informs him of what his family did after him.”
    (Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī)

Earthquakes will become frequent:

    Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The Hour will not be established until knowledge is taken away, earthquakes become frequent, time passes quickly, and harj increases greatly—harj meaning killing.”
    (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī)

The people of faith will become strangers:

    Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Islam began as something strange, and it will return to being strange; so glad tidings to the strangers.”
    (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)

Clarification: Becoming strangers means that ordinary people will not prefer to associate with them or maintain close relations with them.

Faith will retreat to the Two Sacred Sanctuaries:

    Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Indeed, faith will retreat to Madinah just as a snake retreats into its hole.”
