Supplications That Are Prohibited (In the Light of Hadith)

Jabir رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Never supplicate against yourselves, nor against your children, nor against your wealth and property, lest it coincide with a time when supplications are accepted and Allah answers it — resulting in harm coming upon you, your children, or your wealth.
(Sahih Muslim)

Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: None of you should wish for death, nor supplicate to Allah for an early death. When death comes, a person’s deeds come to an end, and he can no longer perform actions that earn the pleasure and mercy of Allah. The lifespan of a believer is, in fact, a means of increase in goodness and elevation. Therefore, wishing for death or supplicating for it is a grave mistake.

Anas رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: O people, do not supplicate for death nor wish for it. However, if a person is compelled to do so due to extreme hardship, then he should say:
“O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and cause me to die when death is better for me.”
(Sunan al-Nasa’i)

Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: People must refrain from raising their gaze toward the sky during supplication in prayer; otherwise, their sight may be taken away.
(Sahih Muslim)

Sectarianism has greatly harmed the Muslim Ummah. Even when people intend to turn toward the religion and seek knowledge, many who possess religious learning begin by introducing them to the distinctives of their own group and the faults of others. As a result, the common person becomes distanced from the religion, and collectively this has led to misguidance, moral decline, unrest, and the erosion of Islamic values.

Yet there remains a ray of hope: many people recognize their lack of religious knowledge. For this reason, these slides present knowledge drawn directly from the Quran and authentic Hadith in a structured form. People wish to understand the commands of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, but this knowledge can reach everyone only if each member shares it widely.

The work of conveying the message of truth was carried out by the Prophets, and through the blessing of the finality of Prophethood granted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, this responsibility has reached us. May Allah grant us the ability to serve the religion sincerely, rising above personal interests. Ameen.
